Premio Italia Arte Contemporanea 2010

MAXXI will be devoting an exhibition to the four young finalists of the Premio Italia Arte Contemporanea 2010 with site specific works realised for the occasion by the artists Rosa Barba, Rossella Biscotti, Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio and Piero Golia. Through their work the four artists, selected by an international jury, explore the idioms of film, performance and installation art in an interdisciplinary linguistic experimentation that places them within the avant-garde of contemporary artistic research.

The winner, chosen on the basis of the work produced, will be the object of a monographic catalogue, distributed on an international level and his or her work will be added to the MAXXI’s permanent collection.

Designed to promote the national art scene, the Italian Contemporary Art Prize identifies the most significant strands of research of recent years and is open to artists under 45 years of age who are either Italian or resident in Italy. The Prize is born out of the experience of the Young Italian Art Prize that in its previous four editions provided a launching pad for artists such as Stefano Arienti, Vanessa Beecroft, Lara Favaretto, Eva Marisaldi, Nico Vascellari and Francesco Vezzoli, while at the same time enhancing the museum’s collection. It is particularly significant that 10 years on from its creation, the prize returns to the MAXXI with which it shares a mission of promoting and supporting Italian contemporary art.
