A reflection on the current state of architecture:
modernity versus modernization
The 15-year period of post-war reconstruction was marked among many other events by the rebirth of Italian architecture and planning which, while having prospered between the two wars, were further enhanced by new components and variations thanks to a more liberal dialogue with international developments.
This eye-witness account by Carlo Melograni presents that unique and probably unrepeatable combination of unprecedented architectural experiences in post-war Italy that produced fundamental models for social and industrial building, museum design and restoration.
The author brings to the fore certain figures he knew personally thanks to numerous opportunities for public debate, thus presenting us with a series of portraits from life of the principal architects of those years, from Franco Albini to Marco Zanuso.
