MAXXI’s Collection of Art and Architecture represents the founding element of the museum and defines its identity. Since October 2015, it has been on display with different arrangements of works.
29 May – 10 October 2009
Rome, Uccelliera di Villa Borghese
curated by Laura Barreca
Following the encounters between vedovamazzei and Raphael (2007) and between Giulio Paolini and Canova (2008), the Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck is to be the protagonist of the third edition of the Committenze Contemporanee project, a result of the synergic interaction between public and private institutions: the Borghese Gallery, the MAXXI and UniCredit&Art are working together to valorise and promote a reflection on historic masterpieces through the eyes of contemporary artists. Created specially for the occasion, the piece by Op de Beeck, entitled In Silent Conversation with Correggio, consists of two groups of works, each of which is composed of three large watercolours in black and white.
Similar to the work of vedovamazzei and Paolini, Op de Beeck’s installation will be conceded by the UniCredit Group on long term loan to the MAXXI, with the aim of creating a coherent nucleus within the museum’s collection.
