The bridge and city. Sergio Musmeci in Potenza

Starting with the works featured in the exhibition Strutture Romane. Montuori, Musmeci, Nervi, the Archives Centre is organizing a series of meetings to explore the great themes of the history of engineering, from the 20th Century to the contemporary, tackling the issue of the safeguarding of these works and reflecting on their preservation and valorization.

The bridge and the city. Sergio Musmeci at Potenza
Archives Centre Study Room, admittance free while places available

The quality of the design of the bridge over the Basento by Sergio Musmeci, one of post-war Italian engineering’s multiple responses to the themes of infrastructure, demonstrates how a specifically structural work can become architecture and qualify the environment in which it is located.
Over 40 years after its conception and realisation, the bridge, recognised as a monument of cultural interest by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities in 2003, is still the object of study and research.
This debate has been organized with the intention of promoting the conservation and systematic maintenance of the work, involving the Municipality of Potenza and the Basilicata Region.

On the occasion of the meeting there will be a screening of a trailer for the documentary on the Ponte over the Basento by effenove with Sara Lorusso and Michele Scioscia.
