The book Italian Conversations – Art in the age of Berlusconi is the fruit of a travelling residency in the cities of Rome, Bologna, Milan, Turin, Naples, Palermo and Lecce undertaken by the Dutch duo Fucking Good Art (Rob Hamelijnck and Nienke Terpsma) that lent an ear to the complexity of the Italian cultural panorama within the current economic and political context.
The two Dutch artists interacted with intellectuals, artists, cultural operators and major figures, while at the same time directly experiencing the current affairs of the last year that have further undermined the already precarious role of the institutions.
Through interviews, stories, newspaper clippings and first-hand accounts, Italian Conversations presents a portrait of the cultural and social scene within the context of a general redefinition of European cultural economic policies as a mosaic of independent projects and forms of self-organization made possible by mixed public and private financing.
