The architecture of Cristián Undurraga’s “El Amor de Chile” Pavilion develops over an area of 1,910 m2 and focuses on the art of hospitality. It takes the form of a suspended volume, a great architrave in wood embraced by a skeleton of criss-crossing wooden beams raised on four concrete pillars. The access area provides space for relaxation with tables and benches. At the entrance, visitors will encounter Chilean cuisine with its flavours and colours. A group of red statues portraying farmers will indicate the route to be followed. The corridor links the exhibition hall with that devoted to tastings and events.
The object is to entertain the visitor, promote interest in the country, demonstrate commitment to the safeguarding of water resources and the sustainable production of food for all.
At its heart, the great wooden structure conceals art: photography, video, multimedia, graphics, furnishings and sculpture. A tunnel surrounded by 24 synchronised projectors immerses the visitor in a virtual reality, on a fishing boat in the middle of the sea or in the vineyards of Carmenere. All the elements serve to illustrate the diverse zones of the country and while the typical products of these area serve to present the variety of the land, the people, the fruits of the earth, the images, the bountiful table Chile offers to the world.
